TSD - Treatment Explanation

THYROID SYSTEM DYSFUNCTION:\n- If TSH is above 2.0-2.5, it is too high for a preconception state and increases the risk of miscarriage. Recommend low dose thyroid supplement to treat.\n- If FT4, FT3/FT4 ratio (goal 0.33 or higher), T3/RT3 ratio (goal 10 or higher) T3, and/or FT3 are low, I recommend thyroid supplementation.\n- I prefer to prescribe a desiccated porcine glandular with T3 and T4 (i.e Nature-throid): Start at 32.5mg/day x 2 weeks, then increase to 65mg/day. Repeat labs in 6 weeks.\n- Doses will be adjusted based on repeat lab results and symptoms.
