Evidence-based estimates from HFEA mandatory reporting data
Quick Estimate
Select your age group and egg source for an evidence-based estimate.
Factors That May Affect Your Outcome
Optional. These do not change your estimate -- they provide additional context.
Co-occurring conditions are common and affect outcomes in ways aggregate data cannot capture.
This is not a clinical prediction. These are population-level statistics from HFEA mandatory reporting.
Estimated Live Birth Rate Per Cycle Started
This data comes from the UK's HFEA, the world's most complete IVF registry with mandatory reporting from all licensed clinics. US outcomes may differ due to differences in clinical protocols and patient populations.
What the Data Doesn't Show You
Complication and outcome rates from HFEA mandatory reporting. These figures apply to all IVF cycles, not just your age group.
Before IVF
Many conditions that lead to IVF referral -- such as endometriosis, PCOS, and unexplained infertility -- may have treatable underlying causes. Restorative reproductive medicine focuses on diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.
Methodology
Data Source
All statistics come from the HFEA (Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority) mandatory reporting register. Every licensed fertility clinic in the UK is required by law to report all treatment cycles and outcomes. This register covers approximately 2 million IVF cycles since 1991.
Why HFEA Over CDC/SART?
The US CDC and SART rely on voluntary reporting. Clinics can choose which outcomes to include, introducing selection bias. HFEA mandatory reporting means no clinic can exclude poor outcomes, making it the most complete IVF dataset available worldwide.
Understanding the Numbers
"Per cycle started" includes all cycles, even those cancelled before embryo transfer. "Per embryo transferred" excludes cancelled cycles and is therefore higher. We show "per cycle started" as the primary figure because it reflects the full reality of starting IVF treatment.
Limitations
These are aggregate, population-level statistics from a UK population. They do not account for individual clinical factors, protocol differences (fresh vs frozen transfers), or co-occurring diagnoses. US outcomes may differ. HFEA mandatory reporting eliminates clinic-level selection bias but does not capture patients who never reach a licensed clinic. This tool is not a substitute for clinical advice.
