Mucus Enhancer

A mucus enhancer is a treatment used to improve the amount and quality of cervical mucus. Better mucus lets sperm survive and travel through the cervix. It treats cervical factor infertility at its source.

A clinician grades the mucus before treating it. The Creighton Model grades a cycle as dry, limited or regular mucus. Across 1,681 charted cycles, a higher mucus score went with a higher chance of pregnancy.1 The link appeared among normally fertile couples but not among couples with subfertility. In one published case, a woman of 29 had tried for five years and charted limited mucus cycles. She conceived after two cycles of a mucus enhancer and fertility-focused intercourse.1

What is used varies by clinician and by cause. It may mean treating a low-grade cervical infection, or supporting the hormones that drive mucus.
