Nearly half of NaProTechnology couples want midwife lifestyle teaching
A diagnostic survey of 101 couples using NaProTechnology in Poland found that nearly 5 out of 10 respondents wanted a midwife to teach them about lifestyle. About 4 out of 10 couples wanted a midwife to teach observation of the menstrual cycle. Few couples had received midwife-provided care during diagnosis and treatment.

Key Findings
47.52% of respondents wanted a midwife to educate them on lifestyle, and 40.59% of couples wanted a midwife to teach them how to observe the menstrual cycle.
36.63% of couples wanted a midwife to draw up a suitable diet regimen, while 4.95% of the respondents considered a midwife competent to perform an ultrasound (USG) examination.
7.92% of the surveyed women stated that a midwife performed their cytology and endocervical culture test, and 6.93% of couples said that a midwife referred them for examination.
22.77% of the surveyed couples believed that midwife competences extend to teaching cycle observation, and 21.78% of the respondents believed they extend to lifestyle education.
Among couples aged 30–35, 42% wanted the midwife to refer patients to specialists for consultations, compared with 12% of those aged under 30 (p = 0.02; χ2 Pearson's test).
Interpretation
In this 6-month survey, 103 couples aged 25–45 years returned the authors' questionnaire online or on paper, and 101 entered the analysis. The results record the couples' own wishes, experiences and views of midwife competence. The authors conclude that midwives have skills beyond those currently used. They note that small subgroups left some differences by age, education and residence without demonstrated statistical significance. The authors write that continuing the study with more subgroups would be advisable.
RRM Context
NaProTechnology is a restorative method that builds care around the menstrual cycle. The paper describes a NaProTechnology team in which a doctor works with a menstrual cycle instructor and a nurse or midwife. It notes that midwives can serve as instructors in the Creighton Model FertilityCare System. Restorative reproductive medicine is couple-centered and cycle-charting-informed. Teaching both partners about the cycle belongs to that care.

Abstract
Background
Infertility is a disease of the reproductive system manifesting with the inability to get pregnant within a minimum of 12 months. In diagnosing infertility and the therapeutic process, pharmacotherapy, surgery and assisted reproductive technology are used. In Poland, the NaProTechnology program is also available, which is a diagnostic and therapeutic method of reproductive health disorders without utilizing assisted reproduction. The midwife can play an important role in the care of the infertile couple.
