Abstract
This is a case presentation of an usual nature, a 43-year-old Hispanic female, multigravida presenting with physical findings of massive ascites. In most instances, the presence of massive ascites is associated with malignancies, tuberculosis or perforated visous. In this case, the diagnosis of extensive endometriosis with ascites is reported as a very rare complication of the disease.
One case of extensive endometriosis with ascites in a young nulliparous woman is reported. The patient had been maintained on suppressive therapy with danazol for over two years, demonstrating the feasibility of conservative management in this extremely rare form of endometriosis. However, long-term efficacy and potential for fertility remain to be determined.
Perineal endometriosis was found unexpectedly in a 32-year-old woman with primary infertility. Since there had been no prior perineal trauma, the transport of endometrium through a venous or lymphatic route could have accounted for the location of the endometriosis.
Perforation of the sigmoid colon in a 28-year-old woman during the 37th week of pregnancy is reported. There was almost complete replacement of the bowel wall by endometriotic tissue showing extensive decidualization of its stroma. This appears to be a very rare complication of endometriosis and the effects of pregnancy upon endometriosis are briefly reviewed.
