Hypoestrogenemia
Hypoestrogenemia is a state of low estrogen in the blood. It follows menopause, poor ovarian function, very low body weight, heavy training, or medicines that shut down ovarian hormone output.
Estrogen does far more than build the uterine lining. It protects bone, blood vessels, the brain, and vaginal tissue, so a long low state carries a cost. One drug for endometriosis pain works by lowering estrogen. In its extension trials, about 21 percent of women in the higher dose group lost more than 5 percent of spine bone density.1
Restorative care asks why estrogen is low and works to support the ovulatory cycle.
