Clomiphene Resistance
Clomiphene resistance means a woman does not ovulate on clomiphene citrate, even at the highest usual amount. Clomiphene citrate is a pill used to bring on ovulation. About 20 to 25 of every 100 women who are not ovulating turn out to resist it1.
The word resistance can mislead. Clomiphene starts ovulation in most women who take it, while far fewer conceive. The same pill thins the uterine lining in up to 30 percent of users1. A pill that fails still tells you something about the ovary.
Surgery is one restorative answer. One NaProTECHNOLOGY chapter reports that ovaries which had not responded became much more responsive after ovarian wedge resection with adhesion prevention2.
