Abstract
This yearbook of the Deutsches IVF-Register (DIR) presents the register's evaluation for 2002, which the foreword describes as the seventh annual evaluation of its kind since the register's federal office was established in Bad Segeberg. According to the foreword, the number of participating centers rose to 112, and these centers documented 87,044 treatments for 2002 plausibly and completely, an increase of 18% over 2001. The foreword states that, for the first time, the register shows a decline in mean pregnancy rates compared with the previous year, and that this may be correlated with a substantial increase in treatment numbers at individual centers. Further sections report results of in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and cryopreservation, and data on children born, including multiple births.
