Abstract
This yearbook of the Deutsches IVF-Register (DIR) presents the register's evaluation for 2004, which the foreword describes as the ninth annual evaluation of its kind since the register's federal office was established in Bad Segeberg. The foreword states that the health policy framework changed markedly through the provisions of the Gesundheitsmodernisierungsgesetz (GMG) as of 1 January 2004. According to the foreword, 61,724 reproductive medicine treatments were documented in Germany in 2004, compared with 107,675 in the previous year. The foreword notes clear differences between the federal states in the extent of the decline, and a section compares the decrease in egg retrieval cycles in the individual federal states between 2002 and 2004.
